| Shelled Hazelnuts & Hazelnut Butter |
Hazelnut Butter has a sweet and rich taste and is a popular addition to entrees and side dishes. The hazelnut tree is said to have spread to Italy, France, and Spain from Asia by way of ancient Greece. The ancient Greeks and Romans ate hazelnuts. Turkey is the world’s leading grower of hazelnuts. Other large producers include Italy, Spain, and Eastern Europe. In the United States, Oregon grows the majority of hazelnuts.
USES Hazelnut Butter is easily spreadable for sandwiches, snacks/appetizers
and is an excellent addition to recipes. It is also a wonderful compliment
to jams, chocolate and crackers. Hazelnut Butter is especially known for calcium, folic acid, folate (lowers blood level of homocysteine, a compound linked to heart disease risk), and protein. Please see our "nutrition" page for additional information.
